Penelope Jane

I have a friend who is having a baby and she has a dog that is deaf.  A cute little dapple dachshund named Jane.  Well, they call her P.J. (Amy said they called her 'not so Plain Jane').  Both her and her husband work long hours and the dog was a rescue dog who came from a not so great home before.  She was so upset because she was having a hard time re-homing Jane and was actually faxing some rescue shelters when I found out about her predicament.

And when I found out my heart told me to take her.  Mr. H2 gave me the thumbs up.  Well, actually he said "Whatever makes you happy".  Yeah, he's that kind of guy :)

Amy was excited and we planned the puppy switch.

And here she is!

She's a wee little thing.  She's smaller than the chihuahuas!  We have been busy having some adjustment days, but everyone is starting to play together finally.  Mr. Beane seems a bit aloof, but Penelope and Nina have bonded pretty well.  Oh, that's the change - we went from P - Plain to P - Penelope.  She just looks like a Penelope.

She's a bit timid and the whole 'she can't hear you when you call her' part takes some getting used to, but totally worth it.  Everyone is loving her.  Now the biggest fights seem to be who is going to hold her!

Mr. Darcy and Doggie Jackets

Another big cold front is shutting down our schools.  Icy weather and I cannot seem to find the coats for the Chihuahuas.  Alas, time to dig through the fabric scraps and patterns.  I have a pattern collection that might look like a small pattern store...

I found some fleece left over from some tie blankets.  Southwestern in navy, red and green and some rainbow stripes!  A boy print for Mr. Beane and something a bit girlier for Nina.

A bit of Colin Firth-Mr. Darcy on the television...

And after a few lake scene rewinds (I do love watching a man remove a cravat)

and tah-dah!

Mr. Beane in his quick fleece jacket for the blustery day coming tomorrow.

And Nina in her rainbow fleece.  She pretty much hated hers.  She walked around like she had stick legs.  Absolutely hilarious, but she will appreciate it tomorrow when she is not shaking all day.

Now, back to Darcy...it's almost time for him to patch up Lydia's wedding and return to Elizabeth...(sigh).

Chihuahua Sleep Over

My brother-in-law's dogs have spent the past two nights with us.  We have a Chihuahua, Mr. Beane and the slumber party friends are Chihuahuas too!  They were also guests for Mr. Beane's birthday party...I had some fun taking pictures of them this morning.

Titus is the guy on top.  I think he is 6 months old.  He's sporting Mr. Beane's too small British rocker shirt.  Mr. Beane is the handsome reddish-brown boy playing with the pink sock...weirdo.  The teenie tiny black one is only 3 months old.  Her name is Nightmare.  She looks much to dainty for a crazy name like that so while she has been here I have been calling her Miss Mary.  She looks pretty fierce in the photo on the bottom left though so maybe Nightmare isn't too far off.  Yeah, she handles herself.  Anyways, they have all had a great time and are worn out napping right now - thank goodness!!

Mr. Beane's First Birthday

Oh, yes.  We are those people.  The people that throw a birthday party for a dog...

And here's the birthday boy!  It's his first birthday and we had a few friends over for some treats.

That's his birthday treat table.  Mini milk bones and bacon and cheese star dog treats.  I also grabbed some Purina soft and chewy dog food that can also be used as treats to use as 'goody bags' for his guests.

His guests brought some little toys or treats.  We recycle our gift bags and birthday banners at this house!

Each dog had an individual cake made from a basic muffin mix with chicken broth subbed for water.  The icing was pureed chicken Vienna sausages with 1/2 block of cream cheese.

Puppy cake, presents and friends...All in all it was a pretty good day for the birthday boy!

Mr. Beane :)

Meet Mr. Beane...

He's my other little baby...well, really he belongs to my daughter, but he spends a lot of time with me.  So much that when she tried to take him up to her room to go to sleep last night he snuck back downstairs to sit in my lap and watch some television...

He's getting ready to have his first birthday in April (they grow up so fast...)

He adores food, especially whatever you might be eating and will even stand up on his back legs for long periods of time in hopes of getting a small smackerel.

Harvey - aka "Bubba Dog"

I am a dog person.  I love all animals really, but dogs have a special little spot in my heart <3.  This is my sweet old baby...

Harvey!

He just turned 12 years old this past February.  Look at that old man face!  We've had him since he was a wee little puppy with big gawky paws and just look at him now...a big ol' Bubba dog.  He doesn't do near as much as he used to.  You throw a ball for him now and he just looks like 'Nah, I'll let you get that'.  There's no more digging or jumping.  Just lots of laying around and waiting for bites of your sandwich...but he's a sweetheart with big expressive brown eyes!
